GUIDING PRINCIPLE

HEALTHY COMMUNITIES

create and enhance safe, healthy communities that attract and retain a socially and culturally diverse population...

Healthy communities provide a range of live, work, and play options that enhance their citizens’ quality of life. These communities consist of safe neighborhoods that provide access for all of its citizens to a mix of uses; housing options; recreation and transportation options; and employment opportunities.

Healthy communities promote a clean environment; ensure access to fresh foods; encourage physical activity and social interaction; and provide access to cultural resources, (e.g., libraries; museums; performing arts centers; cultural heritage recognition and events; etc.)

"If you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic. If you plan for people and places, you get people and places."

Fred Kent, Project for Public Spaces
